<< vendetta >>
a pretty accessible cross-platform media player
introduction
features
vendetta has most features found in traditional media players, while standing out
it values the out-of-the box experience:
- wide codec support (without needing to install plugins)
- queue/playlist management
- playing online videos, including youtube (thanks to yt-dlp)
- a simple, yet proper theme editor
it's actually cross-platform:
- Windows, macOS, Linux
- FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, DragonFlyBSD
- Illumos
- Android (coming soon)
it's fit for both casual and advanced users:
the interface is simple and understandable for a casual user...
with room left for customisation for the power users
it's modular and provides a V library that can be used to embed a media player into ui2 programs
state
currently in alpha, expect instabilities in some areas

reasoning
the mpv ecosystem is pretty wide and lightweight but, unfortunately, there are no accessible cross-platform clients. this forces users into choosing between:
- sticking with the inaccessible upstream mpv client
- having to learn multiple interfaces for each platform
- a media player that does not have this problem, but has other trade-offs, such as lacking some features or worse codec support
none of those are solutions nor good options, so vendetta aims to provide the same experience on many platforms, while staying user-friendly
